SIX COMMON CONTACT LENS MISTAKES

Our optometrists fit hundreds of patients with contact lenses each year.  The vast majority do very well and have absolutely no ill effects over many years of wear.  Keys to success with contacts include a lens that is properly fit and regularly monitored to ensure no health problems develop on the surface of the eyes.  Equally important is proper education on the proper way to use contact lenses safely.

Many of you saw the story of the Taiwanese exchange student ( View Story)  who permanently lost her vision after wearing her disposable contact lenses too long.  While an extreme case, it serves as a reminder that contact lenses are medical devices that can cause severe problems if not properly cared for.

This headline prompted the American Optometric Association to publish a news release:  “Like a bad habit:  Patients’ 6 common contact lens mistakes” ( View Article )  Check it out if you or your kids wear contacts.  It’s interesting and informative, we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
