2018 FRAME TREND FORECAST

April 11, 2018

In 2018 we will see more frames come back from the 1970’s and 1980’s, with styles ranging from simplistic to bold, and oversized still being the go to trend. Both shapes and colors are going in this more retro direction.

In terms of color we are really going to see clear and pastel with different hues start to pick up in all designer eyewear. Our Oliver Peoples collection (at our Crowfoot Location) accomplishes this look by offering translucent colors for all different skin tones. If you are looking for something a little bit bolder many of our brands are utilizing the Pantone colors of the year for both 2017 and 2018. Lastly, there has been an update to the classic tortoise shell that has become so common. Many manufactures are opting for a lighter version, adding a more of a green than yellow undertone.
Colours:

• Translucent
• Pastel
• Purple and green
• Classic Tortoise shell

The round shape that we have been seeing around the last few years is really going to ramp up its popularity this year. It is not just for hipsters anymore! Geometric shapes are going to start appearing in collections, with square and hexagon being the most used. If none of that is for you, there is the ever-changing cat eye. Gone is the bold 50’s look from a few years ago, with subtler cat eye’s becoming the norm.
Shapes:

• Geometric shapes
• Circular
• Square
• Cat eye

Delicate materials are making another appearance. The double bridge that many will recognize their fathers and grandfathers wearing has taken on a more modern appearance and is now directed at both men and women. We will also start to see an emergence of mixed materials, with many plastic frames boasting metal accents, bridges, and temples.
Styles:

• Double bridge
• Key hole bridge
• Thin temples
• Plastic
• Mixed materials

With so many styles available today there is a little something for everyone, taking the past and putting a more modern spin on it.
