Care and Cleaning Instructions for Your New Eyeglasses

June 20, 2019

Are you wishing you could clean your glasses like the professionals? Here are a couple of tips and tricks to get those specs shining:

  1. Spray both sides of your lenses with anti-reflective lens cleaner (approved for eyeglasses). Never use Windex
  2. Always clean your lenses wet.  Cleaning your lenses dry may cause scratching of the lens surfaces.
  3. Never clean your lenses with anything but a micro-fiber cloth or cotton cloths. T-shirts or unknown materials might have harsh fibers and can lead to scratching.
  4. Rinsing your glasses under lukewarm water with a bit of non-oil-based dish soap is another way to get those really tough streaks off your lenses. Making sure the water isn’t too warm or cold is very important, otherwise, it can cause lifting of the coatings.
  5. Avoid wearing your glasses on top of your head or tucked into your shirt.
  6. Store your glasses properly – avoid tossing them in a pocket or purse.  Use the case or protective pouch provided.
  7. Places with extreme temperature may damage the coatings – examples are the interior of a car during a hot day, hot air from an oven or BBQ, or the luggage compartment of an airplane.

Every so often the nooks and crannies of your eyewear should be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath.  Bring them by either one of our locations for this complementary service!
