DRY EYE SUCCESS STORY

May 15, 2017

Many of you will have met Sandra, our friendly pre-test technician at our Cochrane location.  Like many who live in Southern Alberta, Sandra suffered from dry eyes.  Low humidity combined with artificial indoor heating and air conditioning systems caused Sandra’s eyes to frequently feel gravelly, scratchy, and uncomfortable.  Some days her vision would even get blurry as a result.  Looking at many computer screens all day long while Sandra administered testing for our patients would often cause Sandra’s eyes to be unbearably irritating.

An eye exam showed that Sandra had a condition known as “evaporative dry eye”.  With this condition, Sandra produced enough tears but they would only remain in her eyes for a few seconds causing very rapid drying-out of her eye’s surfaces.  We placed her on our 4-month Dry Eye Relief Starter Kit which includes a daily 10-minute Bruder heat/moisturizing mask, Blink lubricating eye drops 4 times daily, and 2000mg of high-grade Omega 3 capsules daily*.

In about a month Sandra began to notice a difference in her eyes.  There was less scratchiness, redness and irritation.  Remarkably the exam findings which showed a noticeable stippling on the surface of the cornea had begun to decrease.  Sandra also found that she became less dependent on the eye drops as her tear function began to improve and remain in her eyes instead of evaporating immediately.

Today Sandra’s dry eye condition is well controlled.  She frequently will counsel our patients who are having problems with dry eyes, to give them encouragement that there is a solution to their suffering!

Dry eyes can cause discomfort that ranges from mild to severe and may even affect your vision.  There are many different types of dry eye with a variety of contributing causes.  Book an appointment with one of our optometrists to get an accurate diagnosis and a great start to dry eye relief.

Thanks to Sandra for sharing her story!
