How To Clean Your Glasses

November 8, 2021

The correct way to clean eyeglasses for proper care and no smudges.

When your glasses are smudged, it’s important to clean them right away – but how do you get them clean properly? Put yourself to the test and see if you know the best way to clean your glasses! Question 1: True or False – using your breath to fog up your glasses is a great way to clean your lenses The answer? False! Although it is convenient, you should never use water or saliva to clean your glasses because it is unhygienic and most importantly, it just doesn’t do a good job! Instead, create a lather over the lenses using a bit of unscented dish soap. Avoid soaps with moisturizer as this can leave a film. Rinse with water to remove the suds. Question 2: What should you use to wipe your glasses? Paper towels Facial tissues Your shirt None of the above The answer is D, none of the above! Dust on your shirt and wood fibers in paper products can scratch your lenses. Instead, grab a microfiber cloth or a soft, 100% cotton cloth. Final Question: True or false – If your lenses are made of glass, you can use glass cleaner to clean them. The answer’s false! For best results and to protect your lenses, the only product other than dish soap you should use is approved eyeglass cleaner on your lenses – which is especially handy when you’re out and about. Ammonia, bleach, vinegar, or window cleaner can strip away the coating on your glasses. How did you do? For more tips on the best care for your glasses, ask us today!
