Mountain View Optometrys Crowfoot and Cochrane locations celebrated World Sight Day on October 15, 2008. Revenue from eye examination fees at both locations was donated to this worthwhile cause. Optometry Giving Sight is the underlying charity that addresses the needs of approximately 300 million men, women and children who cannot see clearly as a result of not having access to eye care or eyeglass services.

75% of the worlds blindness is preventable, and 90% of avoidable blindness occurs in the developing world. Optometry Giving Sight provides assistance in 3 key areas: supporting programs that provide access to eye exams and eyeglasses in developing nations, providing training for eye care support personnel, and developing the infrastructure to ensure that these programs remain sustainable over the long term.Vision impairment and blindness can prevent someone from going to school, or from being able to work to support themselves and their families.

Mountain View Optometry strongly supports the initiatives of Optometry Giving Sight, and encourages anyone interested in contributing to this cause to visit their website at www.givingsight.org.
