MVO FIRST OPTOMETRY PRACTICE IN ALBERTA TO OFFER NEW OPTOMAP SCANNER

September 12, 2016

Recently we installed two of the latest laser scanning devices at our clinics.  The Optomap® California is the newest tool to help your optometrist diagnose eye health conditions of the retina that could cause vision loss – and it’s now available at MVO as the  first practice in Alberta to offer the new technology.

We were one of the first to bring you the initial version of the revolutionary new laser scanner back in 2008.  The Optomap® was developed by an inventor whose son had a tear of the retina that was missed on routine examination. His son later developed permanent vision loss.  (Click here to read the full story).  Tears of the retina as well as other conditions can be difficult to spot by an eye doctor, particularly if there are no associated symptoms.  The Optomap® is designed to capture the largest possible view of the retina in a fraction of a second, often without the need to dilate the pupils using eye drops.

Since we installed the first generation of Optomap laser scanner in both our clinic locations back in 2008 (replacing it with the 2 nd generation in 2012), our doctors have found many eye health problems including retinal tears, holes, degenerations, tumours, vascular and congenital diseases and disorders, optic nerve problems, diabetes related damage and others.  In several cases these conditions were picked up early enough to prevent serious vision loss.

The Optomap® California represents the latest technology to help us diagnose eye disease.  It provides our Calgary eye doctors with an even larger view of the retina, higher resolution, change analysis functions and more.  Our number one priority is to protect your eyesight – with the help of new technology we can do this better than ever before.
