Recently we received the official word that Mountain View Optometry earned the Platinum Award for amounts raised during last October’s World Sight Day Challenge!  We surpassed lasst year’s efforts and raised over $8,000.00 for the charity Optometry Giving Sight.  This was good for second place globally out of hundreds of practices worldwide who participated!

The World Sight Day Challenge is an annual event put on by Optometry Giving Sight, a charity that is committed to help provide vision care services for people in need.  Around the world, there are 600 million people who are blind or visually impaired because they cannot access or afford vision care services.

We would like to sincerely thank all of our patients, staff, doctors and sponsors who helped make this as successful as it was, and especially to our own staff member Katrina Cavanagh who organized the event.

A recent beneficiary of one of the projects sponsored by Optometry Giving Sight is Samuel Chagwadira. He graduated in 2012 to become one of Malawi’s first ever optometrists. He said it was a dream come true.

“To be part of the first group of graduate optometrists in Malawi feels great,” he said. “It is history in the making; we’ve written history!”
