ON-SITE EYEGLASS LENS CUTTING NOW AT MVO

As we near the end of our major renovations at our Cochrane office, one of the additions we are most excited about is our new edging lab!  This state-of-the-art equipment uses a special diamond tool to carefully and precisely cut a pair of eyeglass lenses to be mounted to a pair of frames.

Our team member Sarah O’Brien was chosen to be our edging lab technician, due to her previous extensive experience cutting and mounting glasses.  She completed her training on the new system last week and has been edging and mounting her first few pairs since then.  While the actual lens cutting and shaping is automated, careful attention to detail is required during the setup process for each pair of glasses ordered, which involves accurate positioning as well as the application of a special blocker that properly holds the lens in place – not always easy with the advanced slippery coatings now used on most of our eyewear orders.

We are proud to now offer on-site edging for the first time at Mountain View Optometry.  This will enable us to provide same or next-day service for many prescriptions for patients at BOTH of our locations.  For more complex prescriptions such as progressive lenses, delivery time will be reduced by up to several days.  Most importantly, when considering quality workmanship, the addition of on-site edging allows us to control this very important aspect of your eyeglass order, ensuring your glasses are as perfect as you expect.
